Get to Zero

Description

This game lets students practice subtraction starting from 999. Students should be encouraged to check each other's work and provide feedback on any errors.

Setup

On a sheet of paper, each player writes the names of the participants and the number 999 below each name.

Turns

A player rolls the three dice and arranges the three numbers rolled (for example, 2, 3, and 5) in some order (for example, 235, 352, 532, etc.). They then subtract that three-digit number from 999. The other players should check the calculations.

Game Progression

Players take turns rolling the dice, forming their special number, and subtracting it from their current total.

Special Rules

A player may choose to roll only one or two dice instead of three. If the only numbers a player can form are greater than their remaining score, the player loses their turn.

Winner

The winner is the first player to reach exactly 0. If a player cannot reach exactly 0 on their turn, they must wait for their next turn to try again.

Materials Needed

Three dice, paper, and a pencil.
