Description

This problem requires children to think about factors and multiples, and in particular common factors, although they do not need to have learned this term before attempting the task. It offers opportunities for students to pose their own questions, find examples, make conjectures, and begin to generalize. The problem lends itself to collaborative work, both for children with little experience working in groups and for those who are used to it. By working together on this problem, the task is shared and therefore becomes more manageable than if it were tackled individually.
